Fighting for Mississauga-Streetsville

Strengthening public healthcare, improving access to primary care and reducing hospital wait times
Setting our kids up for success with smaller class sizes and a world-class public education to prepare them for the future
Increasing access to affordable housing while planning for a sustainable future for Mississauga

You deserve a government that will put the needs of Ontarians ahead of private interests. Under Doug Ford’s Conservative government we have seen the largest budget in the history of the province and big spending on line items like a private spa at Ontario Place and alcohol distribution, while hospitals are understaffed, class sizes are larger, the autism wait list has tripled, and housing is further from reach than it’s ever been. I love Ontario. It’s time for a provincial government that puts the people of this province first.

LOCAL PRIORITIES

FLOOD PREVENTION: In the summer of 2024 storms in Ontario caused significant flooding, badly affecting many in our riding, particularly in the Lisgar area where more than 500 homes were impacted, with damages and recovery coming at great personal expense for many of our residents. When Doug Ford’s government announced there would be disaster relief coming (up to $250,000/household), this was welcome news – until it was revealed that, despite the efforts and advocacy of our local municipal representatives, there would be no funding made available for any residents in Mississauga–Streetsville. Our community deserves better.

Doug Ford’s government has made cuts to Ontario’s flood prevention program (link) and recently rejected MPP McMahon’s Private Member’s Bill that would have helped support flood prevention. Residents of Mississauga–Streetsville have been through far too much. Having been personally affected by flooding in my home in the past, I know the devastation and expense. I want better for you and I will advocate for you at Queen’s Park.

TRANSIT: In 2021 the federal government came to the table with 50% of the required funding for all-day, two-way GO on the Milton line, then estimated at approximately $1 billion (link). Going in to the 2022 election Doug Ford’s government continued to reject it and it was clear this was not a local priority for the government here in Mississauga–Streetsville. For reference, the current tax spend on the private spa is over $2.2 billion of public money.

With three GO stations in our riding (Lisgar, Meadowvale, and Streetsville), many local residents take the GO to work every day, but for too many people the limited scheduling causes significant challenges and residents often have to drive down to the Lakeshore line or simply drive into the city. We need better transit to make our lives easier and more affordable, and to help relieve congestion on the roads. It’s long past time. I will continue to fight for all-day, two-way GO on the Milton line and make things better for you and your family.
